Caring for your feet includes choosing footwear that is comfortable and
well fitting. Shoes that are too tight or that cause excessive rubbing
may lead the way for blisters.
|
|
Shop for shoes in the afternoon when your feet are slightly larger. |
|
|
Look for shoes that are made of leather or canvas.

These materials will stretch a little to accommodate your foot. Shoes
made of plastic or vinyl do not offer enough flexibility to allow your
feet to move comfortably. |
|
|
Avoid shoes that have narrow, pointed toes or high heels.

Athletic shoes are a good choice for daily wear. |
|
Before putting on any shoes, always check the insides to make sure the
lining is smooth and that there are no foreign objects inside.
If your doctor or healthcare professional has prescribed special shoes
or shoe inserts, have them checked periodically. Do not put inserts
into other shoes without having them checked.
Always wear socks with your shoes to prevent blisters and sores.

Socks made of natural, absorbent fibers, such as cotton or wool, help
keep your feet dry. Make sure the socks are soft, comfortable, and,
preferably, seamless. Be sure they are not so tight at the ankles that
they hinder circulation and that they don't bunch at the toes.
