Which Doctor to See

Caring for your diabetes is not easy. You may see many different doctors and healthcare providers to help you manage your condition. If you think you may have a diabetic foot ulcer, make sure you are seeing a doctor who knows how to treat them. Don't be afraid to ask how many they have treated in the past and whether they are trained to sharp debride your wound.

Primary Care Doctor

Your primary care doctor may act as the leader of your healthcare team. If you have concerns about your foot health, you can start by talking about it with your primary care doctor. He or she may refer you to a doctor that specializes in foot care.

Podiatrist (DPM)

A podiatrist is doctor who is specially trained to treat feet and problems of the lower legs. Podiatrists treat corns, calluses, and more serious foot problems.

Vascular Surgeon

If you have blood-flow problems in your legs or feet, you may be referred to a vascular surgeon.
